With 100,477 deaths and 3,012,412 confirmed cases, this country of 212 million inhabitants is the second most affected, behind the United States. The ministry reported 905 new deaths in the last 24 hours, as well as 49,970 new contaminations.
However, the official figures must be put into perspective due to insufficient testing, with specialists estimating that the total number of people infected could be up to six times higher.
Brazil deplores 478 deaths per million inhabitants, a figure equivalent to that of the United States (487), but lower than that of Spain (609) or Italy (583).

Senate President Davi Alcolumbre on Saturday announced an official four-day mourning in Congress in honor of the more than 100,000 people struck down in Brazil by the virus.
The situation still appears to be out of control as the pandemic enters its sixth month in Brazil. The first confirmed case of Covid-19 was identified in Sao Paulo on February 26, and the first death on March 12, also in the megalopolis.
