Lourdes: Bruno Le Maire flies to the aid of the economy of the Marian city

2020-08-10T10:55:34.316Z

On the move this Monday morning, the Minister of the Economy reinforced the measures for this city particularly affected by the absence of tourists and pilgrims.

No miracle for the moment, but promises. Traveling to Lourdes and accompanied by Alain Griset, Minister Delegate for SMEs, as well as Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State for Tourism, Bruno Le Maire came with his pockets full of commitments. " We wanted to come to Lourdes (...) to show the support of the whole government for a city particularly affected by the economic and health crisis ", he assured in front of some traders and journalists. In this city, " which lives from tourism, he recalls, it is 70 to 80% less activity because foreign tourists and pilgrims are not there ".

It is for this reason that he announced the extension of the devices planned for tourism to a certain number of sectors. The following are now concerned: souvenir and piety shops, which are very numerous in Lourdes, shopping arcade shops, airport shops, translators-interpreters, other crafts, auxiliary water transport services, paris sportsmen and labels, details Bercy. All these sectors will therefore be able to benefit from partial unemployment and the solidarity fund until the end of the year, as well as the exemption from social contributions over four months, on the occasion of a decree that will be signed " soon. ".

In detail, this corresponds to 1,500 euros from the solidarity fund for activities whose turnover does not exceed 50% of normal activity, and 10,000 euros of aid to pay the rent when this is not " More possible ", detailed the tenant of Bercy.

We are the country in Europe that has preserved the purchasing power of the French the most

Bruno the Mayor

More generally, Bruno Le Maire once again defended the government's action throughout this crisis. We decided to intervene immediately and massively. This choice is yielding results, ”he said, referring to“ the first signs of economic recovery, gradual but real ”. He thus alerted to the fact that " the only thing that could break this recovery would be the resumption of the epidemic ", and therefore called for compliance with government instructions and other barrier gestures.

" We are the country in Europe which has preserved purchasing power the most," he hammered in front of traders in the Marian city. He explains this through specific support measures, such as those granted to young people (the bonus of 200 euros in particular). Savings therefore exist, of course, but they are not necessarily reinjected into the economy, due to the concerns of the French about the future. " I gave myself two years for France to regain by 2022 the level of economic development it had in 2019 ", tried to reassure Bruno Le Maire.

An ambition that today seems to be part of the quest for a miracle, as the expected economic indicators are at half mast for the coming months: GDP in free fall of 13.8% in the second quarter, 11.8% unemployment expected in the first half 2021… Bruno Le Maire has promised " to adapt the systems, to continue to pay attention " and to " promote the ecological transition and innovation " to guarantee this recovery that he calls for.

The government will move up a gear on August 25, with the presentation of the recovery plan in the Council of Ministers.
