The coronavirus epidemic is gaining momentum in France. 14 people have died in the past 24 hours, bringing to 30,354 the total number of victims since the start of the epidemic, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Tuesday August 11 in its daily press release.

1,397 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours, and more than 11,223 have been detected in a week. 191 new hospital admissions were recorded, for a total of 5,012 patients currently hospitalized. Among them, 21 new serious patients were admitted to intensive care, bringing the number of patients in these units to 391, against 396 yesterday. The “ Île-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France and Guyana regions account for 69% of patients in intensive care, ” specifies the DGS.

319 cases grouped in activity

319 “ clusters ”, or sources of contagion, are still active in the territory, including 28 new ones that have been detected in the last 24 hours. Between August 2 and 8, 600,262 tests were carried out in the territory, with a positivity rate of 2.1%. Since the start of the epidemic, 108,485 people have been hospitalized and 83,237 have returned home.

In order to reduce the risk of infections, the DGS recommends wearing a mask, even outdoors if the distance of 1 meter is not respected, and to avoid too large friendly and family gatherings. " Focus on small groups, equip yourself with masks for the general public and hydroalcoholic gels, prefer outdoor spaces, ventilate the premises, activate StopCovid, protect the most fragile ", she explains.

Globally, the 20.1 million mark since the appearance of the virus has been crossed, for a total of at least 737,285 deaths.
