In its morning bulletin this Wednesday, Météo France places 13 departments on storm alert. Sign that the heat wave is coming to an end,

We will finally be able to breathe. It was expected but it's better when it's confirmed: the lasting heatwave episode that has gripped the country for a week is coming to an end.

In its latest bulletin published this Wednesday morning, Météo France indeed confirms the forecasts of recent days and it is therefore the thunderstorms, arriving from the West, which herald the end of this heat wave.

Vigilance all the same, because these rainy phenomena could be sometimes violent, as was already the case locally on Tuesday in Gironde or in Essonne.

Thirteen departments in the west of France are thus placed on orange alert: Finistère (29), Côtes-d'Armor (22), Morbihan (56), Loire-Atlantique (44), Ille- et-Vilaine (35), Manche (50), Mayenne (53), Maine-et-Loire (49), Vendée (85), Calvados (14), Orne (61), Sarthe (72) and Indre-et-Loire (37).

Météo France warns that these storms, which are already at work on the Atlantic coast, will increase in the coming hours and then intensify and "become violent from the end of the morning on the West region". Heavy accumulations of rain, hailstorms and violent gusts of wind are thus expected. "This stormy wave will evacuate towards the English Channel at the beginning of next night", further specifies the forecaster.

"The heatwave will end"

On the front of the heatwave, which should therefore end in a little over 24 hours, temperatures still remain very high in places. Thirteen northern departments, against 15 the day before, are still placed in red vigilance. 53 others are placed in orange vigilance. This Wednesday morning at 5 am, from Aquitaine to the Hauts de France, temperatures are still between 20 and 24 degrees ...

But Météo France specifies that "temperatures will start to drop from the west in connection with a stormy degradation of great magnitude to which it will (therefore) be necessary to pay attention". And especially that this Thursday, the drop in temperatures will be generalized to the whole of the territory. The heatwave will end. "
