Joe Biden gave his ghostly candidacy a bit of relief by choosing Kamala Harris as his running mate. The California senator ticks the boxes imposed in these times of #MeToo and Black Lives Matter: with a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, this immigrant daughter becomes the first woman "of color" to run for vice-president. His relative youth, his experience as a strong attorney general, his radiant and media personality could give a positive motivation to those who plan to vote Biden by default. But it would be very naive to imagine that all women, African-Americans and Asians will rally by clan identification to the Biden-Harris “ticket”.
In reality, it doesn't matter much. First, because the vice-president is only a spare tire in the American system - even if the "old models" personified by Joe Biden (77 years old) and Donald Trump (74 years old) somewhat strengthen the hypothesis of a succession
