Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Syrian government and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), especially in light of the circumstances imposed by the Corona epidemic.

This came during a meeting with Dr. Al-Miqdad this morning, the new representative of the organization in Syria, Bo Victor Nilund, who presented his credentials to the Deputy Minister.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Miqdad welcomed the new representative, wishing him success in his new mission, and praised the existing cooperation between the Syrian state and UNICEF in the various fields of the organization's specializations, especially in the framework of interest in childhood, health, education and water.

Al-Miqdad explained the interest that the Syrian state attaches to continuing to provide education to all Syrian children in the various educational stages, in addition to focusing on the importance of rehabilitating and repairing schools and supporting the education sector in general, especially the progress of the exam process for students leaving areas under the control of armed terrorist groups.

Al-Miqdad also indicated the great concern that the Syrian state attaches to the health of its children, and he welcomed further cooperation with UNICEF in this field.

Dr. Al-Miqdad pointed to the aggravation of the catastrophic negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its Western affiliated countries on children and on the educational process and the basic services provided to them, which requires UNICEF to shed light on this danger through its reports and data.

In turn, the representative of the new UNICEF organization stressed the need to continue the efforts made by the organization during the previous years that witnessed fruitful cooperation in various fields related to the mandate of UNICEF, indicating that he would work to support the measures taken by the Syrian government in the face of the Corona epidemic and to provide the necessary assistance to Syrian children, especially in both fields. Educational and health.

The meeting was attended on the Syrian side by Abdel Moneim Anan, Director of the International Organizations Department, Osama Ali, Director of the Deputy Minister’s Office, and Dr. Khawla Youssef from the International Organizations Department, Zina Ali from the Deputy Minister’s office, and from the guest side, Bashar al-Atrash, protocol official in the organization.
