An alcohol ban could be introduced on the shores of Lake Starnberg. A kiosk operator is now fighting violently - and shows what the real problem is.

  • An alcohol ban could be introduced on the waterfront in Starnberg.
  • A kiosk owner strongly opposes these plans.
  • He sees the real problem elsewhere.

Starnberg - The Starnberg Holiday Committee, quasi the city council in August, advises on an alcohol ban on Monday . If the city administration has its way, it should not only apply to the Steininger property , the Böhler property and in the Bucentaurpark - but also to the lake promenade . Werner Gschwendtner has been running a kiosk there for 31 years . The city's plans, based on recommendations from the Free State , startled him. He has written a letter that he intends to distribute to city councilors before the meeting on Monday and that Starnberg Merkur has also received. GschwendtnersCore message : "There have been no increased problems with drunk people lately ."

Alcohol ban on Starnberger See-Promenade: kiosk owner with a clear statement

A take away and consumption ban, as the city intends to do, would mean for the kiosk operator : He might still sell beer and other alcoholic beverages . But who buys something like this at the lake if he is not allowed to drink it there? Very few. Gschwendtner defends his regular guests. "Come to me a lot that the view at after work lake want to enjoy on the train waiting and her cool relaxation beer drinking," he says.

Alcohol ban on Lake Starnberg? The problem are young party-goers

The situation at the Steininger bathing area is more problematic for Gschwendtner . He speaks of young people "with beer crates pilgrimage loaded there and party make." Because complaints about garbage and recklessness had increased there, the city hired a security service. According to Gschwendtner, young people meet at night to drink and party on the lake promenade . “That would then be the task of the security service to monitor more closely,” he says. But the kiosk operator almost never sees both the city staff and the new security staff .

If anyone can report on events on the promenade, it is Gschwendtner. Even at the age of 67, he drives early every morning from his home in Peißenberg to Starnberg . On hot summer days , his kiosk is open until 10.30 p.m. He can already remember scuffles among young people or drunk people who were no longer accessible. But not of remarkable police operations .

Especially in Corona times: A beer after work on the lakeshore in Starnberg should be allowed

To Gschwendtners customers include - especially in Corona times - even tourists . There is currently no gastronomy on the steamers , and one or the other is looking forward to a cold beer on the lake after the boat trip . Gschwendtner and his employees sell eight to ten crates of beer a day in warm weather; a 0.5 bottle costs two euros. But ice and water are more in demand in summer.

"An alcohol ban would be financially bearable, but it would hurt me personally," he says. The work would simply not make it so much fun because the regulars without their Feierabend beer then probably have to look for another spot. He wants to stop in the foreseeable future, says Gschwendtner: "If an alcohol ban comes, I might do it earlier."
