Former President Bucaram is arrested in Ecuador

Ecuadorian authorities detain former President Abdalá Bucaram. The former president is being investigated for his alleged participation in the crime of organized crime in relation to the murder of an Israeli citizen inside the Guayaquil jail, according to the Prosecutor's Office. On Tuesday, Bucaram defended himself and said that: "The truth is that the Bucaram family has never had a death in the country in their lives." The former president recognized the leaked audios of telephone conversations between him and the murdered person. Since June, the former president has been the target of several investigations for arms trafficking, trafficking in property assets and irregular purchase and sale of medical supplies during the coronavirus health emergency.
