Three Spanish tourists died and a fourth went missing after a canyoning accident on Wednesday August 12 in eastern Switzerland, police in the canton of St. Gallen said.

The incident occurred in Vättis (municipality of Pfäfers) in the Parlitobel Gorge, an area popular with canyoning enthusiasts. The four men were reported missing after a severe thunderstorm in the area. Three were found dead during the night, the fourth man is still missing, according to the same source.
During the night, the weather conditions interrupted the search carried out by " a large number of rescuers ". Operations resumed early Thursday morning, said the cantonal police.
The four Spaniards descended the gorge without a guide. “ The group was traveling privately, ” Florian Schneider, spokesperson for the St. Gallen cantonal police, told Keystone-ATS.
