Since the beginning of July, the department “ has once again been confronted with the appearance of cases of Covid-19. The mixing of populations in the summer, the presence of many tourists, the proximity of Spain, a place where the circulation of the virus is very active, require individual awareness and a collective reaction to avoid an epidemic resumption , ”insists the prefecture. .

In Perpignan, the prefecture of 120,000 inhabitants, the mask will be compulsory in several streets of the center until at least September 13. The 32nd edition of Visa pour l'Image, the largest photojournalism festival in the world, is to be held from August 29 to September 13, but in a reduced format, adapted to the health situation.

Mask also compulsory on Avenue de France until September 15 in Perthus, a busy border shopping town, but also within the walls of the fortified city of Villefranche-de-Conflent (until August 31) and in the resort seaside resort of Saint-Cyprien (until September 15).

In the tourist sectors of the seaside towns of Canet-en-Roussillon, Barcarès, Argelès-sur-Mer and Collioure, wearing a mask is always required. The fine is 135 euros. Wearing a mask is also compulsory in establishments open to the public, open air markets, garage sales and flea markets in the department. For the moment, the Pyrénées-Orientales remain spared by the deterioration in health indicators observed at the national level with, on August 11, date of the last assessment of ARS Occitanie, only one hospitalized person (out of a total of 55 in Occitanie).
