The United Nations on Friday launched an appeal for funds in the amount of 565 million dollars for Lebanon, ten days after the deadly explosion that devastated the city of Beirut. This aid will in particular be intended for reconstruction efforts following the first emergency phase in the capital. It is about financing the rehabilitation of hospitals and schools and providing a roof for the victims, homeless since the huge detonation at the port, where tons of ammonium nitrate were stored.

"The task of rebuilding the lives of the inhabitants and allowing the healing of such devastation has only just begun," Najat Rochdi, a coordinator of humanitarian aid to Lebanon, told the UN. She called on the international community not to skimp by putting their hand in the wallet, bearing in mind in particular "the incredible generosity of the Lebanese towards the Syrian and Palestinian refugees".

The explosion of August 4, illustrating corruption and mismanagement of Lebanese politicians, left more than 171 dead and 6,500 injured and sparked anger in the streets over which the government of Prime Minister Hassan Diab had to resign .
