Former Dubai Police Commissioner Dahi Halfan starred in the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in 2010. At the time, he was known to have exposed Israeli Mossad agents responsible for the assassination of a senior Hamas official at the time. That he is changing direction.

In a Twitter tweet, Khalfan wrote that "all merchants in the Emirates must transfer their commercial ties from Turkey to Israel." This is as stated, in the spirit of the same agreement with Israel, and following the existing tension between Turkey and the Emirates, which only worsened with the announcement of the normalization of relations with Israel. But what exactly is behind that change in Halfan's attitude toward Israel?

In the case of the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, about a decade ago, Khalafan served as commissioner of the Dubai Police. From Iran, he reportedly survived 3 assassinations, but on January 20, 2010, hotel workers found him in his room in a lifeless Dubai hotel.

The news of al-Mabhouh's death was published only a few days later. The same Halfan, who commanded the police, revealed the photos of 33 suspects in the assassination, taken on the hotel's security cameras as they rented rooms next to him and followed him. Halafan claimed throughout that he was an agent of the Israeli Mossad, and was perceived as embarrassing Israel.

And yet, today it seems that he expresses himself a lot on Twitter, and precisely in favor of Israel. About two months ago, he tweeted "From the beginning, non-recognition of Israel is meaningless. Israel is a country based on knowledge, prosperity and close ties to all the countries of the developed world."

He also called in tweets to normalize relations with Israel "Not that we will not normalize relations? What is stopping us? After all, it is known that there are ties with it?". Indeed, last Thursday, the normalization of the relationship in question did materialize.

Indeed, Halfan's recent statement on Twitter is not very surprising given the fact that relations between Turkey and the Emirates are getting worse. The UAE sees Erdogan's regime as a dangerous factor, working to advance the Muslim Brotherhood's takeover of countries in the region, including Egypt.
