The motorist who fatally ran over a cyclist while fleeing the police on Wednesday in Paris was indicted on Saturday for " aggravated manslaughter " and drug trafficking, then imprisoned, we learned from a judicial source.

The 21-year-old fled around 6.30 p.m. when the police got out of their vehicle to carry out a check, according to a police source. Pursued by the police, the fugitive then struck a cyclist at the crossroads of Boulevard Raspail and Boulevard Montparnasse in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. The cyclist, 59, was deceased.

After two days in police custody, the suspect was presented on Saturday to an investigating judge who pronounced his indictment for " manslaughter by driver ", aggravated by the fact that he was driving under the influence of narcotics and that he tried to flee, according to the judicial source.

The judge also indicted him for " transport, possession, acquisition and offer or transfer of narcotics ", as well as for " refusal to comply aggravated by endangering the life of others ", said this source. . The suspect was remanded in custody, in accordance with the prosecution's requisitions.
