The Likud and Blue and White agreed tonight (Saturday) that the cabinet meeting is expected to convene tomorrow - to discuss issues related to Corona only, and that no other issues will be on the agenda. The cabinet meeting was canceled last week due to the dispute between the Likud and Blue and White over the bylaws of the government and the voting mechanism. The controversy has not been resolved despite contacts being held by party representatives to resolve the coalition crisis, but in blue and white have already agreed last week to advance issues related to Corona. Both parties said tonight that a cabinet meeting is expected to convene on these issues and the agenda has not yet been circulated.

At the same time, in the coming days, talks between Blue and White representatives and the Likud are expected to continue in an attempt to prevent elections. On Thursday, the two parties reported that "progress has been made," but there are still gaps in the budget, senior appointments, and defense of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from a possible High Court disqualification or imprisonment.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid attacked the function of the government on Twitter, amid disagreements, and wrote that "a government that needs negotiations to decide whether to get up tomorrow morning and go to school is a government that needs to end." It is a shame and a disgrace. That while the country is in crisis all they are dealing with is their politics. You are tired of being disconnected. "

The Likud has not yet agreed to advance the budget deferral law, which will allow the Knesset not to disperse automatically on August 24 at midnight, when only after agreements are reached on the budget, are they expected to agree to advance it in the second and third readings.

Between the Likud and Blue and White, several compromises have been reached regarding a budget debate, but the parties have not yet reached an agreement. Another controversy concerns senior appointments. The Likud and Blue and White were to formulate within 100 days an agreed mechanism for senior appointments such as the Commissioner of Police, the State Attorney and the Attorney General.

The Likud demands that the entire appointment process be private, meaning that the two blocs will also be involved in appointing the selection committees and choosing the names of the candidates, and canceling the Goldberg committee that examines the appointments of senior officials. In blue and white, they refuse to give the Likud a foothold in the internal proceedings in the Ministry of Justice, and especially in appointments that may be particularly crucial for Netanyahu and his trial, which will open early next year.

Blue and White are convinced that Netanyahu is interested in influencing mainly the process of selecting the state attorney, which is expected to begin soon. Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn said on Net 2 today that "he will not agree to harm the way judges are appointed."

Another issue at the heart of the negotiations is the Likud's demand for a guarantee that the High Court will overrule the rotation arrangement and prevent Netanyahu from serving as the deputy prime minister in November 2021, because he is charged with crimes. The current agreement also includes a similar clause, but it is limited to only six months and the Likud demands that it be extended.
