The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, reiterated that the increase in the US military presence in Poland would cause an escalation of tension on the western borders of Russia.
Commenting on the signing of an agreement between Washington and Warsaw last Saturday to increase the American military presence in Poland, the TASS news agency quoted Zakharova as saying, “The increase in the American military presence in Poland does not solve security problems, but on the contrary it exacerbates the difficult situation on the Russian borders and contributes to escalating tension and increasing Risks of unintended accidents ”.
Zakharova added ... that NATO's allegations that the military expansion is not of an important character "is an attempt to distort reality ... the implementation of the US-Polish agreement will enhance the offensive capabilities of the American forces in Poland."
And US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced at the beginning of this month that the United States and Poland had agreed to send an additional 1,000 American soldiers to Poland, and Washington and Warsaw signed a treaty that was agreed upon last month allowing an increase in the number of American forces in Poland to at least 5,500 individuals. The agreement allows Poland to increase the number of troops. America will quickly reach 20,000 if needed.
