The Italian authorities extradited Moscow to a Russian citizen wanted by the United States on charges of espionage, according to a decision of the Italian Ministry of Justice.
The Italian security forces detained the Russian Alexander Korshunov, director of the project development department in the Russian United Company for the Engine Industry, in Naples in late August, at the request of the American side.
Sputnik quoted Korshunov’s lawyer, Jan Domenico Kayaza, as telling reporters today that his client “returned to Moscow at the end of last July, accompanied by Russian security personnel while he was under arrest.”
Last September, Moscow expressed its protest to the US State Department against the arrest of Korshunov in Italy at an American request on charges of attempting to steal a commercial secret from an American company.
Italy's behavior is considered an exception to the norm in such cases, as it is customary for Western countries to fulfill Washington's requests regarding the detention of Russian citizens.
