Now the responsible jury chamber of the regional court of Regensburg has to decide on the admission of the indictment. The Mittelbayerische Zeitung  had previously  reported.

The 35-year-old nurse, whom the investigators believe to be an urgent suspect, had already been in custody for the 2013 murder. The man was arrested again in mid-December 2019. The investigators rely on a number of circumstantial evidence.

During a renewed examination of Baumer's clothing and hair, for example, specialists were able to detect a strong sedative in the form of a drug that the suspect allegedly administered to her. How exactly and whether the agent actually killed the woman is unclear. That will probably never be clarified, it said at a press conference by the police and public prosecutor at the end of 2019.

It is not certain whether the agent was the actual cause of death. A specific conclusion is not possible, said Rauscher. That was the first concrete indication of a homicide. The investigators then checked whether Baumer took the drug himself. But this was not so. 

Murder of Maria Baumer: suspect was looking for "the perfect murder"

In addition to the traces of the drug, the investigators would have used the suspect's search history as evidence. He is said to have specifically searched for the keywords “ lorazepam ”, “lethal dose” and “the perfect murder”. Lethal means fatal. On top of that, the murder victim's former fiancé claims to have spoken to her twice and she is said to have written him a Facebook message . The alleged phone calls and messages could be refuted. He wrote the message to his Facebook account from the same IP address, namely from home. According to Maria Baumer's provider, the phone calls could not be traced back to her cell phone. 

In addition, three days before his fiancée disappeared, the suspect bought a spade in a hardware store, which proved that it was used to dig the pit in which Maria Baumer was found. 

The investigators saw all these clues as an opportunity to arrest Maria Baumer's former fiancé again and bring him into custody. The final investigation is expected to be completed by the end of February 2020. Until an official legal verdict, Thomas Rauscher continues, the presumption of innocence applies to the suspect.
