The new village square in Schönberg is to get a motor skills fun park this year. The special thing about it: the village community manages the project itself - including donations.

Rottenbuch / Schönberg - The village square in Schönberg has long been close to the hearts of the residents. You want a renovation to create a meeting place for all generations. The Rottenbuch village renewal, which started in 2017, had its origins in the ambitious goal. The state-funded development process was put on hold in 2019 for subsidy reasons, but the village square was not lost sight of. The wish of the Schönbergers is now becoming a reality: The centrally located area on Dorfstrasse has been rebuilt for a few weeks - this is made possible by the commitment of the village community. In the end, the project is managed without subsidies. Advantage: The municipality does not have to go through a cumbersome funding process.

“It's moving very, very much,” said town hall chief Markus Bader (Free Voting Association) in the most recent council meeting, praising the commitment of the citizens. The upper area of the site has been leveled, the lawn for the soccer field is already sprouting. "Perhaps you can also use it as a festival area," says Bader. There is now a solution for the lower area, which used to be home to playground equipment. Bader: "That'll be pretty smart."

Generous donation for the Schönberger project

The Schönbergers have agreed on special equipment. “We're making a motor skills fun park,” explained Mathias Bräu (Schönberger voter association), the local council is coordinating the entire project. Conclusion: “It won't be a playground.” Instead, it will be an outdoor exercise course with eleven stations. The concept includes a wooden "agility tunnel", a wobble plate, a balancing forest and a trampoline. The target group should be the whole family. “It's for every age group,” explained Bräu.

The financing was secured, was heard from Bräu. According to Mayor Bader, the offer is just under 90,000 euros net. The order to the Austrian company Agropac from Breitenfeld / Styria has now been placed. In addition to their own contribution, the people of Schönberg benefit from “a generous donation”, as Bader says when asked. "Thank you very much for that."

Motor skills devices are to be set up in Schönberg in autumn

The community is still doing its part: for around 26,000 euros there is new LED street lighting on Dorfstrasse. In principle, the local council unanimously agreed in March that the local authority would contribute up to 100,000 euros to the redesign of the square.

According to Bader, the motor skills devices are to be set up in the fall, and the street lamps are also due to come this year. “This is not a run-of-the-mill playground,” said the town hall chief happily about Schönberg's new meeting place for generations. “It's a showcase story,” says Bader. Mainly because of the citizens' own contribution: "This is your project and will not be imposed."
