(CNN Spanish) - This Wednesday, the president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, announced the return of professional football for Saturday, August 29, under “strict sanitary measures” due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Within the framework of the “Paso a Paso” program —with which Chile seeks to progress gradually towards lack of refinement—, the authority explained that the parties will be held, in the first instance, without an audience and with all the necessary safeguards.
“You know that in this step by step we can take steps forward, but also steps backward. This is a match that one team or another will not win, Chilean football will win it, ”said Piñera at a press conference.
Currently, in Chile there are 390,037 coronavirus infections and 10,578 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
