Fight against traffic chaos: Farchant breaks new ground

The Farchanters are tired of it. Your village often serves as an alternative route when there is a traffic jam alarm on the B2. Like last Sunday again. In order to keep the traffic chaos out of the town, the community is now putting on notice boards.

Farchant - Christian Hornsteiner (CSU) won't forget this July 19 any longer. This Sunday, when drivers wanted to avoid the traffic jam on the B 2 and blocked Farchant for hours. Car after car lined up even in small back streets. In the end, the metal columns no longer rolled through his place as dramatically as they did then. Nevertheless, there can be no talk of a relaxed situation. But the church knows what to do. Last Sunday she tested a method for the first time to keep the masses of road users as far away from the village as possible.

So-called LED variable sign tags were used. The municipality ordered two pieces from the local company PUS. They were set up with the help of the fire brigade and in consultation with the police. The one on the Farchanter spinning top. “It should be a mere indication,” emphasizes the mayor, “that drivers should stay on the B 2”. The other on Partenkirchner Strasse - with the aim of keeping the route free for residents and ensuring that road users choose the route via the main street as far as possible. Corresponding information can be read on the boards: “Farchant through-town traffic overloaded, attention” or “Blocking possible” they indicate.

Not everyone was stopped by the clues

Hornsteiner, who made himself an on-site picture on Sunday, draws a positive balance. “It worked,” he says. Even if not everyone was impressed by the hints. He expected that. For him, only one thing counts: “We want to avoid chaos like back then.” In order not to endanger public safety.

Because his fire letter, which he had written to the Autobahn Directorate South Bavaria after July 19, was unsuccessful. Hornsteiner blamed the bottleneck at the Oberauer tunnel portal south for the traffic collapse. Instead of the two lanes there is only one lane to the north. The mayor suggested removing or relocating the excavated material at the eastern site facility and moving the road. His request was not heard. Not even after a subsequent conversation with the authorities.

If necessary, the LED systems are installed

“Nothing will be changed in the construction process,” reports the town hall chief. In other words, the situation there will persist until November. Then the traffic should flow in two lanes again by March, before only one lane is available again. Which already leads over the bridge. At least that is his level of knowledge. No information on this was received from the Autobahn Directorate on Wednesday.

As a precaution, the community wants to continue installing the LED panels in the future. If necessary. When there is block processing due to traffic jams at the Farchanter Tunnel. And once again chaos threatens the unfortunately tried and tested place.
