In the wake of threats to repeal the sanctions, Iran this morning (Thursday) unveiled a ground ballistic missile and a new cruise missile, the Tezanim news agency reported. The ceremony was held on "Local Security Day" marked by the regime.

In a speech delivered by Defense Minister Amir Khatami, he said: The surface-to-surface missile is named after Qassem Suleimani and has a range of 1,400 km, the cruise missile has a range of over 1,000 km. He said this morning: "Iran has achieved an achievement in developing a naval cruise missile that will reach a range of more than a thousand kilometers."

As you may recall, on Friday the Security Council dropped a proposal to extend an arms embargo on Tehran, which is due to expire in October. "They're just connected to this crazy nuclear deal, they're trying to hold on to it," Pompeo said at the time.

As early as April this year, the Secretary of State demanded that the arms embargo be extended, following growing concerns in the US administration and in Israel that following the corona crisis, which is affecting many victims among the Iranian people, Tehran will decide to accelerate their nuclear project.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said tonight that Pompeo will inform the UN Security Council that it intends to reinstate most of the sanctions on Iran. Antonio Gutters, the Reuters news agency reported.

According to Trump, the sanctions previously suspended will be almost fully reinstated. The president said tonight that it was clear that the United States had always had the right to impose sanctions on Iran again. Pompeo added that the United States would take action against Russia and China if they tried to lift the sanctions, and warned them against such a move, claiming they would be held accountable.
