(CNN Spanish) - David León Romero said on his Twitter account that the money he gave to the brother of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Pío López, was for "holding assemblies and other activities."
León Romero reacted in this way to the publication of a video in which León appears giving some packages to Pío Lopez Obrador and from the conversation it is inferred that they contain money.
But León Romero said on Twitter that this happened five years ago, when he was a political consultant and not a civil servant, and that the money was raised among acquaintances.
León Romero was recently appointed by AMLO to work as a member of the team of the Ministry of Health of Mexico. However, he said he will not join the secretariat until his situation is clarified so as "not to affect the Government of Mexico."
CNN en Español is trying to contact Pío López Obrador to find out his version.
President López Obrador responded a few minutes ago to the video: «They are contributions, to strengthen, the movement ... at a time when the people were the ones that supported, basically, we have been fighting for many years and the people have financed us as they have happened when revolutions have been carried out.
