Pompeo in Israel: USA is committed to maintaining the IDF's qualitative advantage (Walla! NEWS system)

The United Arab Emirates has canceled a public tripartite meeting scheduled for New York last Friday between United States Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Kraft, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Ardan and United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Anna Nusseibeh, Walla! NEWS learned tonight (Monday). Three insiders said the reason for the cancellation was dissatisfaction in Abu Dhabi with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly opposing the F-35 deal with Washington.

The triple meeting, initiated by Kraft, was to be solemn and public and included dissemination of photos to the media and a joint announcement. According to sources, all parties had already confirmed the meeting and held talks on the details - but then UAE representatives informed the US ambassador and the White House that the meeting was canceled until further notice.

One of the sources involved in the details noted that senior UAE officials decided to cancel the meeting to send a message to Israel that they were disappointed with Netanyahu's public statements on the sale of the stealth, and moreover that he intended to oppose the arms deal when it comes to the US Congress.

The source added that in recent weeks they have understood that even if Netanyahu prefers that the plane deal not be implemented, he will not go against it in public. So when the prime minister expressed his opposition in public, the UAE felt he was acting contrary to the spirit of contacts between the parties. According to the source, Abu Dhabi's message in canceling the tripartite meeting is that there will be no public political meetings between the two countries until Israel's position on the aircraft deal is clarified.

US envoy to Iran Brian Hawke, who joined Pompeo's visit and attended meetings, said in an interview with Walla! The White House and the United Arab Emirates declined to comment. No response has been received from the Prime Minister's Office so far.
