(CNN Spanish) –– The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation requested this Tuesday the Special Chamber of Investigation of the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia to send the Prosecutor's Office a file against former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez for the alleged crimes of bribery of witnesses and fraud procedural.

A source in the high court told CNN that the decision to send Uribe's case to go to ordinary courts rests with the Investigation Chamber. “At the moment they are still studying the case. The accusations against Uribe were for conduct carried out as a senator and that is why it is the jurisdiction of the Court, "added the source.

Uribe, who is at his El Ubérrimo farm in the department of Córdoba, in the northeast of the country, is supervised by officials of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute of Colombia, as a measure instituted by the judicial authority while he appears before the Supreme Court of Justice. The former president has always denied the accusations against him.
