The number of people infected with corona in Munich continues to rise. Prime Minister Söder warned the population in a video message.

  • Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder has announced changes to the Corona fine catalog.
  • On Monday (August 24), the CSU politician in Munich warned of the effects of a second wave of infections - and added a video message the next day.
  • In the state capital, the 7-day incidence is approaching a critical mark.

Update August 25, 3:50 p.m.: In Munich yesterday, Monday, August 24 (as of 11:59 p.m.), 86 new coronavirus cases were confirmed. This means that a total of 8282 infections have been reported so far , as the city of Munich announced on Twitter. The 7-day incidence fell again from 30.92 to 27.93 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

Munich: Corona trend positive - incidence is falling - new measures not yet necessary

The trend is thus positive again and the announced ban on alcohol-to-go from 9 p.m. and the consumption of alcohol in public places, which Lord Mayor Reiter (SPD) and the city of Munich had announced in the morning, should the 7-day incidence increase to 35 or higher does not work at first.

Update August 25th, 11:50 am: The numbers are worrying, ”said Prime Minister Markus Söder  on Tuesday morning in a  video message that was distributed via his Twitter account. A "similar development as we had in March, April of this year," warns the CSU politician: "That's why we have to be all the more concerned now."

The point now is not to loosen the reins any further, but to tighten them a little. One has to face those returning from vacation, family returnees, but "also the  carelessness  that  takes place at many  parties and party events in Germany", Söder continued.

Corona Munich: Söder finds clear words in the video message

The CSU boss believes that higher penalties are required for violations. "Overall, it is clear: the situation is not getting any easier." In order to prevent a lockdown, "we have to react where it is regionally necessary." There is no cause for panic, "but there is great concern."

The parliamentary groups agreed on this at a round table on Gärtnerplatz. According to information from our newspaper, the Department for Health and Environment assumes that the 35 mark will be reached by Wednesday at the latest.

Corona Munich: Important value is approaching critical mark

Update August 24, 3:20 p.m .: Prime Minister Söder should read carefully after his admonishing words: In Munich , 68 new corona cases were reported for last Friday, 30 for Saturday and for Sunday, August 23 (as of 11:59 p.m.), 41 new corona cases.

The  7-day incidence  for Munich is now 30.92. It corresponds to the number of newly reported cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the last seven days and is determined daily by the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) throughout Bavaria.

In order to be able to contain local outbreak events in good time, a threshold value of 50 was set for the 7-day incidence and a signal value of 35 as an “early warning system” . So there isn't much left in Munich either. When it was last officially announced on Thursday (August 20), the city reported a value of 27.05.

The number of  reproductions  for Munich is 0.76 (as of August 23) - this means that, statistically speaking, 100 infected people infect 76 new people. The more clearly the number of reproductions is above 1, the faster the coronavirus will spread. The further it drops below 1, the fewer new infections are to be expected.

Corona Munich: Söder tackles refusers - fines are increased

Notification of origin (August 24, 12.50 p.m.):

Munich - With higher fines for mask refusers and more controls , Bavaria wants to slow down the dynamics of the second corona wave in Bavaria . "We will raise the catalog of fines to 250 euros in one-off cases and up to 500 euros in the case of repeated violations ," said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) in Munich on Monday .

For violations of quarantine requirements, 2000 euros should also be due. "We hope that there will be even better compliance," said Söder.

The Ministry of the Interior is currently working with the Ministry of Health on the catalog of fines , which should be announced later this week. A decision by the cabinet is not necessary for the amendment. In the future, police officers will also be able to issue warnings directly , previously the health and regulatory authorities were responsible for this.

Bavaria massively increases the penalties for # Corona violations: Those who do not comply with quarantine have to pay up to 2000 euros. Mask violations will cost 250 euros in the future, and even 500 if they happen again. Söder: "We must protect the sensible from the unreasonable."

In the private sector in particular, the controls of corona requirements - also with regard to the number of guests at private celebrations - are hardly feasible in practice.

In the fight against the pandemic, Söder also announced an expansion of the corona test centers to train stations for long-distance buses . So far there are only test centers at highways, airports and normal train stations with long-distance traffic. The regional test centers would then also start their work by the beginning of September at the latest.
