The Police Investigations Department (DIP) is holding a reenactment this evening (Wednesday) of the shooting incident in Iyad al-Halak in the Old City of Jerusalem, three months after the incident in which police officers shot him dead while on his way to the Center for Special Needs. Halek, near the Lions Gate, is closed to traffic.

Reconstruction of the shooting incident in Iyad al-Halak in the Old City, tonight

DIP representatives met with al-Halak's parents about a month ago and told family members that the investigation was nearing completion. DIP clarified that although security cameras at the scene were seized immediately after the shooting, the incident was not recorded. Representatives further claimed that the cameras at the scene, including those in the garbage room where the shooting took place, were not connected at the time of the incident.

Shot on his way to a center for people with special needs. Iyad al-Khalq

Al-Khalak, 32, was shot dead on May 30 on his way to a special needs institution. Police say police who were at the scene suspected he was armed and asked him to stop, but al-Khalak, who did not understand their request, escaped and was shot when he arrived at a deadly garbage compound. DIP opened an investigation and the two police officers involved in the shooting were questioned.
