A 17-year-old boy was arrested today (Wednesday) and charged with murdering protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, who have been experiencing riots since Sunday, when police fired seven bullets at close range at the back of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man, as he opened his car with his young children.
The incident, which was videotaped, rekindled protests against racism and police violence in the United States. On the third night of demonstrations in the 100,000-strong city between Milwaukee and Chicago, a shootout broke out before midnight, followed by some elected officials calling for reinforcements from the National Guard or the deployment of federal agents.
US President Donald Trump said today that he had spoken with Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, who said he had agreed to have the support of federal law enforcement agencies.
"Today, I will send the federal law enforcement agencies and the National Guard to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to restore law and order," the Republican president tweeted, without elaborating.
