In the district of Weilheim-Schongau, there was an above-average number of sheet metal damage in 2018, which is why the insurance premiums for partially comprehensive insurance are now being increased.

The General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) yesterday presented the new regional classes for car insurance. The association evaluates the accident figures and uses this to calculate the risk for the individual registration districts that motorists will be involved in an accident.

In the coming year, based on these calculations, drivers in the Weilheim-Schongau district will have to dig deeper into their pockets. With liability (regional class 9) everything stays the same. The classification of fully comprehensive insurance (regional class 7) does not change either. Only the classification in the case of partial coverage deteriorates. If regional class 9 was estimated for the current year, it will be regional class 10 in the coming year, according to the GDV.

How much that matters in the end is different for each contract. Numerous other factors - including the no-claims discount, but also the vehicle's type category - play a role here.

The increase in the type class can be explained by an increased amount of damage in this area. The partial insurance covers, for example, broken glass and damage caused by game. The national average is 100 percent, which corresponds to regional class 7. In the Weilheim-Schongau district, however, the damage index is 130 percent. In 2018, around a third more partially comprehensive claims were reported to insurers than the national average.

The regional differences are clear even in Upper Bavaria. In Munich, for example, the regional class for liability is at a maximum of 12, in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district the partial coverage remains the same, but the fully comprehensive coverage increases by one level.
