The Chinese Coast Guard issued a notice yesterday (26th) that the Guangdong Coast Guard intercepted a suspected illegal cross-border vessel in Chinese waters outside Hong Kong's southeast waters at about 9 o'clock on August 23. According to sources, there were 12 young Hong Kong people on board who were heading to Taiwan at the time, including Li Yuxuan, a member of the "Hong Kong Story" who was arrested on suspicion of colluding with foreign or foreign forces in violation of the "Hong Kong National Security Law".

The source pointed out that after the National Security Law came into effect, the mainland public security judged that some arrested persons may abscond from Taiwan by the waterway. Therefore, water control has been strengthened to intercept illegal immigrants.

After the anti-amendment law turmoil, some people sought political asylum from other places for political reasons, but they all left the country normally, and there were few cases of absconding. According to information from the Immigration Department of Taiwan's Ministry of Interior, 5,858 Hong Kong residents were granted residence permits last year, and another 1,474 were granted residence permits. Despite the impact of the epidemic this year, the number of people who obtained residence permits in the first seven months reached 3,876, and another 899 people were granted residence permits.
