Thousands of people demonstrated in Washington, DC, today, denouncing racism and protesting police brutality.

Reuters reported that participants in the demonstration stressed the importance of voting in the presidential elections next November, calling for civil rights for African Americans, the rights of the disabled, and standing against violence caused by the carrying of weapons and their spread in American society.

This demonstration comes in commemoration of the 1963 rally in which the leader of the movement calling for civil rights for African Americans, Martin Luther King, delivered a historic speech known as "I have a dream."

This summer has seen hundreds of protests across the United States sparked by the killing of George Floyd, a defenseless African-American, who died after a Minnesota police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

And earlier this week, protests erupted in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after a police officer shot another African-American named Jacob Blake several times in front of his sons as he turned his back to be paralyzed.
