Residents have been suffering from an illegal campsite at Mittenwald Schwarzenfeld for weeks: The Karwendelbahn board reacts with allegations. Now they are fighting back.

  • The illegal campsite in Mittenwald has been terrorizing residents for weeks.
  • The Karwendelbahn boss responded to her repeated requests with accusations.
  • But the residents don't want to be intimidated that easily.

Mittenwald - The doorbell rings. Thomas Bauer's view is serious. He hears the dial tone from the loudspeaker twelve times. Then he presses the red button on his smartphone. “Cannot be reached,” says Bauer. He is angry. Pissed off. Thomas Bauer is one of the many residents of the Schwarzenfeld car park. It has been used as an illegal campsite for years . The situation has worsened for a few months and has become intolerable. He and his colleagues really only want one thing: Peace, order and cleanliness. They got exactly the opposite: rubbish, faeces and noise - right on the doorstep.

Now Bauer finally wants to speak to the landowner. Put Wolfgang Wilhelm Reich , the strong man at Karwendelbahn AG , on the phone. Even better: meet him personally. But calls have so far failed. He can reach an employee of the company. Reich and Patrickennen are not there. Bauer tries it in Heidenheim. A friendly woman explains to him that Reich will not be available until September 10th.

Karwendelbahn leadership criticizes residents

Bauer took the latter telephone number from the letter that the residents of Schwarzenfeld recently found in their mailboxes. Without postage. Once again, the man from Heidenheim strikes out on the two A4 pages for an all-round flip - against the usual: media and market town. But also - and this is what amazes Bauer most - against the residents. “He assumes that we are media horny, ” says Bauer. Reich wrote to them "that one or the other just wanted to see his face on television". Instead of having a conversation with him, the residents "went public with inflammatory and defamatory reports".

Bauer is stunned. On September 17, 2018, he wrote an open letter to those responsible for the Karwendelbahn about the illegal campers and the rubbish they left behind. In fact, a meeting took place afterwards - without Reich, but with a knowledge. That's it "Since then, no contact has been made." E-mails and chats have been wasted for almost two years. "In no way were those responsible for a discussion about a long-term solution to the problem."

It is your responsibility to put a stop to such conditions (...).

Thomas Bauer in a letter to Karwendelbahn AG

You didn't hear from Reich again until August 21, when he reacted to the nationwide headlines that his parking lots had triggered by then. “The ignorance of the railway operators annoys me immensely,” says Bauer. "It is your responsibility to put a stop to such conditions through regular checks and appropriate signs."

Karwendelbahn tour submits an application to the market town

Instead, Reich submitted an application to the market town to set up rubbish bins and build a public toilet . But that's exactly what Bauer and the rest of the residents don't want: even more campers who are attracted by it. "We expect a return to valid parking times for caravans and mobile homes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the erection of camping prohibition signs," they write in a reply to Reich.

Three days have passed since then. There was still no reaction. Neither by phone nor in writing. Even on site at the valley station, they are out of luck. “Because he's looking for a conversation,” summarizes Bauer. Resident Petra Schandl is also angry. “The Karwendelbahn violates the terms of use of the market community and the district office needs over 19 months to check this. That can't be true. ”That's why your next step will be a conversation with District Administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters). "Otherwise we don't know what to do."
