They confirm that an Argentine child died from ingesting chlorine dioxide

(CNN Spanish) - A medical board convened by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the province of Neuquén, in Argentine Patagonia, confirmed that a 5-year-old boy had a "multi-organ failure" after ingesting chlorine dioxide.

On August 15, the boy was admitted to the hospital in the town of Plottier without vital signs. According to what was reported by the health authorities, during the interrogation carried out by the medical personnel, the parents said that they had supplied them with chlorine dioxide as a “preventive” against covid-19.

From that moment an investigation was opened in the Justice. The prosecutor in the case, Sandra Ruixo, requested complementary studies to establish with greater precision the cause of death.

Doctors from the Forensic Medical Corps of the Judiciary and the public health system issued a report in which it is argued that the cause of the multi-organ failure revealed by the autopsy is compatible with the ingestion of the caustic chemical.

Among the measures ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office, there is the search of the house where the child lived with his family, requests for medical reports, interviews with health professionals, the child's relatives and members of the Neuquén Police.

The case is being investigated as a doubtful death and, at the moment, there are no people arrested or charged. Meanwhile, due to the fact, the family made no statements to the media.

In mid-August, the Ministry of Health of Argentina issued a statement highlighting that chlorine dioxide does not have studies to prove its effectiveness, and clarified that the substance does not have any authorization from the authorities for its commercialization or use.
