Far-right activists burned Koran books in the southern Swedish city of Malmö and caused riots, local police said today (Saturday). Following the burning of the Koran, about 300 people took to the streets in a violent demonstration, throwing objects and stones at police, as well as setting fire to tires and bins. Several policemen were lightly injured in the riots, and about 15 people were arrested.

Violence began in Malmö as early as the afternoon, when some far-right activists burned Koran books, near an immigrant neighborhood. The activists filmed the burning of the books and uploaded the documentation to social networks, which was soon distributed in many ways and inflamed the spirits.

According to police in Malmo, the forces have not yet taken control of the violence in the city. "We are working to gain control," it said.
