Fire and rescue forces are working today (Saturday) to rescue a man who got stuck in a tunnel in Arara, in Wadi Ara. Rescue attempts began at night, and since then efforts have continued to get the trapped person out of a pit about 50 meters deep.

The man is unconscious, and the firefighters went down the route of the tunnel wearing oxygen masks and trying to make contact with him. According to the rescue forces, the crews managed to bring the trapped person a little closer to the entrance of the tunnel, and efforts to rescue him continue. Israel's Fire and Rescue Commissioner, Rabbi Dedi Simchi, arrived at the scene and received an overview of the rescue efforts.

"This is a very complex incident of a man trapped inside the route of a tunnel that descends down a slope," explained the incident commander, Hadera Regional Station Commander Deputy Yossi Deklo. "The fighters have been working since late at night to rescue while risking personal life to reach the same trap."
