In Corona times, a lot is different - even with Munich's swimmers. Now there is trouble in the Dante bath. A teacher is outraged.

  • A teacher no longer understands the world and fights against the Münchner Stadtwerke (SWM).
  • The Munich resident is angry - because professional swimming training and private swimming lessons are prohibited.
  • But fewer and fewer children can swim.

Munich - Claudia Wittmann no longer understands the world when her daughter Maja (16) comes home bent last Tuesday: Maja only wanted to teach the boy next door Timo (6) to swim, but the lifeguard told her that it was forbidden. Wittmann is outraged, suspects a misunderstanding and asks the public utility company (SWM) directly. The answer is astonishing: " Private swimming lessons are actually prohibited in the M-Pools - even if they are acquaintances, " they say. A statement that a SWM spokesman will later put into perspective ...

Munich: Grotesque corona posse about Maja (16) - mother falls away from faith when she hears details

For many, learning to swim was already difficult this summer : the courses were canceled due to the Corona * pandemic. "A whole year did not learn to swim with it," says a spokesman for the German Life Saving Society (DLRG). And: Even before Corona, there were waiting lists of one year and longer for DLRG courses alone. As early as the Whitsun holidays, the DLRG expected a rush to the bathing lakes in Bavaria and warned of dangers *.

In the case of six-year-old Timo from Nymphenburg, her parents got help from next door without further ado: Maja, who swims in the club, should make Timo a water rat before his vacation. Voluntary, of course. The problem: she was too professional about it.

Corona Munich: Stadtwerke react after swimming pool Zoff

"Of course, there is nothing wrong with a parent or a friend showing a child a few swimming exercises ," says SWM spokesman Michael Silva, contradicting the email that Wittmann received from SWM. But: Professional training is generally prohibited . The background is that in the past there were commercial course providers who illegally used the municipal baths for their offers. "Colleagues intervene when assistance looks like professional training," says Silva.

Maja with her swim belt and the assistance had probably drawn the lifeguard's mistrust . "I understand that lifeguards take a close look at group lessons, but that you have to justify yourself now when you help a neighbor annoys me," says Wittmann, who, as a primary school teacher, observes with great concern how fewer and fewer students can swim. “We even have fourth graders who are non-swimmers!” She says. Dramatic, because drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children.

Munich: Mother after Corona posse to Maja (16) upset

Despite the anger: Maja and Timo continued to practice. And Timo and his family can now enjoy their vacation by the water to the fullest - and safely.

Register first, then splash around

Due to the current situation, access to the pools of the Münchner Stadtwerke (SWM) is currently only possible with prior online reservation. In addition, children under the age of 12 are only allowed access to the bathroom if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The swimming course program has also been revised due to Corona . All swimming and technique classes scheduled until the end of the summer vacation have been canceled. Which courses will take place in the near future can be found under course offers in the M-Pools.

Munich: Pools well attended - despite Corona: That is the timetable until the end of the season

The summer is slowly coming to an end, from today it will be cooler and wetter. And the municipal utilities are already taking a first look back at an outdoor swimming pool season in pandemic times. SWM pool manager Christine Kugler sums up: “Due to the later start due to the corona, our season this year is six weeks shorter than usual. In view of this, we are quite satisfied with the number of summer bathers: At the end of August we had around 535,000 visitors - that is around half the number in a regular season. ”The visitors had internalized the reservation requirement and the hygiene rules well.

Most of the outdoor pools will close their doors soon: The Bad Maria Einsiedel , the Ungererbad , the Bad Georgenschwaige , the Westbad , the Prinzregenten- and the Dante baths are open until Monday, September 7th. In the Prinzregenten and Dante baths, the early swimmer rule remains until this day. Two pools are being extended: the Michaeli outdoor pool until Friday, September 18, and the Schyrenbad - if the weather permits - until Wednesday, September 30. In the Westbad, Michaelibad and Schyrenbad, the last morning swimmer is on August 31st . In all outdoor pools the following applies from September 1st: it ends at 7 p.m.

Zamperl will also get their money's worth this year: The dog bathing day will take place on Friday, September 11th, in the nudist area of the Dante baths.

The Dante bath made headlines last summer. Young people cause trouble in the outdoor swimming pool - group bullying women.

Here you will find the new Corona figures for Munich: The city is heading for a far-reaching ban - a value that was last so high in April.
