29 people died and another 28 were injured last night (Saturday) in the collapse of a two-story restaurant in northern China. Rescuers who arrived at the scene managed to rescue 57 people from the rubble, seven of them in a very serious condition.

Diners came to the restaurant to celebrate the 80th birthday of a resident of the city where the restaurant, located in Shanxi Province, located about 630 kilometers south of the capital Beijing, collapsed. Hundreds of rescue workers arrived at the crash site in an attempt to rescue more people from the rubble, and they used patrol dogs, cranes and advanced sensors in their search for trapped people.

Local authorities did not say why the restaurant collapsed or what happened to the happy owner. Local media reported that China's Occupational Safety Commission will open an investigation into the incident.

Last week, at least two people were killed, 18 injured and about a hundred others were declared missing in the collapse of a five-story building in the southwestern Indian city of Mahad. 28 people were rescued from the rubble, while the rescue forces that arrived at the scene also had to deal with heavy monsoon rains that have recently plagued and caused flooding in the area. It is estimated that the collapse was caused by floods.
