Covid: mutuals will contribute in two stages

2020-09-02T19:12:16.655Z

The complementary health insurance has accepted the principle of a contribution. But they refuse all haste.

Mutuals and other complementary health will indeed go to the fund to relieve Social Security, whose deficit should soar this year to more than 50 billion euros.

In the standoff between them and the government, a new meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening at Olivier Dussopt, Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts, to fix the final details.

The executive's objective is to ask mutuals, insurance companies and provident institutions to pay Social Security an

“exceptional contribution”

, calculated on the savings they made during the epidemic crisis.

Indeed, during confinement, many insured have given up some care, and many consultations and tests were covered 100% by the Social Security.

However, the mutuals took premiums and contributions as usual.

According to the Ministry of the Economy, complementary health organizations have thus saved 2.6 billion euros during confinement.

Complementary health insurance companies recognize this and have accepted the principle of a contribution.

But they refuse any haste, because there could be a catch-up in the second part of the year of care not carried out during confinement.

Some complementary thus claim to have had surprises in the dental field, with post-May postponement of very substantial care.

Faced with this lack of visibility, the government should take a two-step response: a deposit would be paid by the complementary from 2020, followed by a readjustment in 2021, depending on the care actually reimbursed by the end of the year. .

This amount should be allocated to Medicare, weighed down by the Covid-19 crisis, which should show a deficit of 31 billion euros this year.
