In response to the proven poisoning of the Kremlin critic Alexej Navalny, the Greens called for the German-Russian pipeline project Nord Stream 2 to be canceled: "The apparent attempted murder by the mafia-like structures of the Kremlin can no longer just worry us, it must have real consequences, "said parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt.

After all, the neurotoxin Novichok used according to the laboratory findings cannot be bought in the drugstore.

"That's why a very clear answer is needed here."

For example, one could say: "Nord Stream 2 is no longer something we can promote together with Russia."

It had previously become known that Navalny was said to have been poisoned with the chemical nerve agent Novitschok, according to investigations by a special laboratory of the Bundeswehr.

The German government now sees this as "unequivocally" proven and has urged the Russian government to clarify the case.

"There are now very serious questions that only the Russian government can and must answer," said Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

It announced that it would discuss an "appropriate" reaction with the allies.
