A visit to the hair salon has sparked criticism against Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.
The legislator went on Monday to a beauty salon in San Francisco, where prevention measures against the coronavirus still prohibit the opening of this type of establishments.
The images of Pelosi walking through the premises without a mask have flooded American television and have unleashed the claims of Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who accuse him of being hypocritical in the face of the speech that promotes the protection of citizens against the covid -19.
Security cameras captured Pelosi walking with wet hair through the beauty salon, with her mask on her neck.
The Democratic leader follows one of the stylists who does wear a mask.
The images have been broadcast by Fox News, which has also interviewed the owner of the hairdresser, Erica Kious.
According to her account, in her salon some stylists rent the spaces by the hour and on Sunday night one of them told her that Pelosi was going to go to the place to wash and dry her hair.
"It was a slap in the face that she came, you know, that she feels like she can go, that they do her thing for her and that no one else can come in," Kious explained.
Until Monday, all the beauty salons in San Francisco were prohibited from opening and since Tuesday, September 1, the local government authorized their activities to resume only outdoors.
Pelosi, then, went to the salon when the total closure was still in effect.
After her visit to the hall, the Democratic leader appeared on television that same afternoon speaking about an initiative to increase funds for health in the fight against the coronavirus.
When the video of her visit was released, Drew Hammill, spokesperson for the legislator, assured that Pelosi met the conditions that the establishment indicated.
“He always wore a mask and complied with local measures on covid.
This business offered him to go on Monday and told him that the city had allowed them to have one client in the salon at a time, ”he said.
Pelosi has repeatedly accused Trump of not wearing the mask to protect himself from a possible contagion of covid.
He has called him a "coward" for rejecting its use and has criticized him for celebrating the closing of the Republican Convention at the White House in a ceremony with hundreds of people who did not wear a mask.
The US president has mocked the video on his Twitter account and has assured that the Republicans will take away her seat from the legislator in the next elections.
So far, the United States has registered six million cases and 185,000 deaths from coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
