The Hong Kong Actuarial Society released the "Hong Kong Insurance Insured Mortality Report 2018". At the end of 2017, the Experience Research Committee of the Actuarial Society evaluated the insureds of 17 major insurance companies in Hong Kong and obtained data. The relevant insurance policies accounted for 86% of Hong Kong.

The report summarizes the data on the causes of death of Hong Kong life insurance insured persons in the past eight years from 2010 to 2017, and compares with the figures in 2001.

The report pointed out that the average life expectancy of Hong Kong citizens from 2010 to 2017 was longer than that of 1991 to 2000. The average life expectancy at birth for men rose from 78.6 to 82.5 years, while for women it rose from 83.6 to 86.8 years.

The results are consistent with the figures of the Census and Statistics Department. The Society believes that because of the improvement of medical treatment and the increase of public health awareness in recent years.

Lin Yidong, Chairman of the Empirical Research Committee of the Hong Kong Actuarial Society, said that bad eating habits increase the chance of developing cardiovascular disease in adults.

The rate of death due to accidents dropped in the old, middle and young groups.

Among them, the deaths of men under the age of 25 have dropped sharply from 38% to 18%, while women’s deaths have dropped from 38% to 14%, a decrease of about half. The society believes that the living environment is safer than before, such as traffic in the past ten years. The death rate by accident has fallen.

At the same time, the rate of deaths from cancer under the age of 25 has increased significantly, from 15% to 22% for men, and from 15% to 24% for women.

The report shows that the proportion of men aged 25 to 45 who die from cardiovascular disease has risen from 8% to 12%.
