The human rights NGO Amnesty International asked Friday, September 4 in Kinshasa and the United Nations for "
urgent and concrete measures
" to protect the Congolese Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege, who claims to be the target of threats against him and his family.

We are alarmed: two weeks after (Congolese) President Félix Tshisekedi promised to protect Dr Denis Mukwege, his government and the UN authorities have still not taken concrete measures
", deplores Sarah Jackson, deputy regional director of 'Amnesty for East Africa and the Great Lakes, quoted in a statement.

Likewise, the authorities have not started investigations into the threats, promised by President Tshisekedi

Dr Mukwege reported threats at the end of July, a few days after denouncing a new massacre of civilians in his province of South Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The famous gynecologist, nicknamed "
the man who repairs women
", is co-winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for the care he provides, in his Panzi clinic near Bukavu, to thousands of women victims of sexual violence.
He tirelessly denounces the impunity of the perpetrators of killings and sexual violence in eastern DRC, destabilized by conflicts for 25 years.
Amnesty is also calling for the protection of Panzi Hospital and the patients receiving treatment there.
