The vaccine is called
Sputnik-V
in homage to the world's first satellite, launched by the Soviet Union.
Some experts have warned about its use until all the tests and international regulations on study vaccines have been taken.
But with the results now published for the first time in an international journal, and with a 40,000-person later-stage trial released last week, a senior Russian official said Moscow had faced its critics abroad.

"With this we answer all the questions from the West that have been asked during the last three weeks, frankly with the clear aim of tarnishing the Russian vaccine," said Kirill Dmitriev, director of the Russia Direct Investment Fund, which has endorsed the vaccine.
