Philippe Escalle, a former Castres Olympique winger, with whom he was French champion in 1993, died on Saturday at the age of 51, AFP learned from a source close to the family.
Philippe Escalle, who had also played in Béziers, died after a heart attack during a cycling trip.
He was 51 years old and the father of two boys.
On Twitter, Rugbiterre, the association of supporters of Béziers expressed his emotion: “Terrible news on learning of the tragic death of Philippe Escalle, Champion of France 2000 with Béziers (Elite 2), exemplary and faithful captain for many seasons, and former trainer of @ ASBHOfficiel ”.
