Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - Mathematics, German, biology and history: This is back on the schedule from next week.

School starts again on Tuesday - in the form of face-to-face classes.

Home schooling and the like are not planned for the time being.

Many have already got used to the fact that masks are worn in school and in the playground.

What is new, however, is that mouth and nose protection must now also be worn during lessons in secondary schools - at least for the first two weeks.

In addition to the students, this also applies to teachers and all other persons who are authorized to be on the school premises, such as property management staff or cleaning staff.

Some parents and students are quite skeptical about this regulation.

So does the mother of three Verena Gebhardt from Bad Heilbrunn.

She complains: “How are my children supposed to stand it?

In addition to class, both of my daughters have to take the bus for two hours. ”This means that the two students at the St. Ursula Hohenburg girls' high school have to wear a mask from 7 am to 2 pm.

For the older daughter, who is now in the 11th grade, the period is even longer.

“She now has afternoon classes too.

Since she heard about the mask requirement in class, she has been totally depressed, ”says the mother.

Gebhardt describes the mask requirement in class as "an imposition to which one is totally at the mercy".

"Mask requirement with house dust mite allergy even worse"

Nadine Gründl is attending the 12th grade at the Hohenburger Gymnasium from the coming school year.

She also suffers from the mask requirement.

“I have a house dust mite allergy, and that's always difficult with a cloth mask.

I get red eyes very quickly and it itches everywhere, ”reports the 17-year-old.

In general, however, she is happy that face-to-face teaching is possible again.

“Homeschooling was not ideal so shortly before I graduated from high school, I lack a lot of material in some subjects,” says the Heilbrunn native.

In itself, Gründl finds the mask requirement in public spaces useful and important.

“But it's really tough all day and during class,” she says.

This is also a new situation for the headmasters.

Michael Basel, vice-principal of the Tölzer Südschule, sees the mask requirement as an "obstacle to teaching" - for example when it comes to the clarity of pronunciation in foreign language lessons.

“But it probably makes sense - based on the hygiene ordinance,” he adds.

According to Basel, a good alternative would be transparent masks.

"But they cost 10 euros each. There are certainly families for whom that is a major cost factor," he adds.

In general, he can already imagine that wearing a mask all the time “has a negative effect on the ability to concentrate, but we just have to let that happen to us”.

"Will have to show in practice"

Alexander Göbel, headmaster of the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium, also says: “It will have to be shown in practice how the mask requirement affects teaching”.

In general, he sees the regulation split.

"This can definitely lead to communication problems," he says.

“In the fifth grade English alone: When learning 'th', the students should already see the mouth movement.

On the other hand, the aerosols just fly through the air, ”says the headmaster.

The mask requirement brings restrictions, especially in sports and music lessons.

"There were only the biggest question marks behind it, since Wednesday there have been instructions in the new hygiene plan," explains Göbel.

It says, for example, that music lessons with wind instruments are not allowed during the first two weeks.

"Singing is okay, but only with a mask and at a distance of two meters," Göbel quotes from the state guidelines.

Sports lessons can only be done with a mask if this is reasonable.

Theory or a walk in physical education

Christoph Beck, director of the St. Ursula girls' high school in Lenggries, emphasizes: "Of course, masks are annoying, but better than homeschooling." There will be an alternative concept for physical education.

"Either the theory is done or you go for a walk with the students outside." Beck does not believe that the masks in class could be an important educational barrier.

"After all, so far it only affects the first nine days of school in this form."
