In recent years they have been real visitor magnets for Weilheim, the “Hüttenzauber” in Schmiedstrasse and the Christmas market.

But whether and how the popular meeting places can take place this year is in the stars.

  • The popular Christmas market may not take place this year due to Corona

  • It is also questionable whether the "hut magic" will exist

  • The city of Weilheim is looking for opportunities

Weilheim - Whether for lunch for a hot grilled sausage, a soup or crepes, whether in the evening for a cozy get-together for a mulled wine or a children's punch - the huts of the "Hütten Zauber" have been a popular meeting place for the Weilheimers in Advent and beyond in recent years.

The highlight of the pre-Christmas booth magic was of course the Christkindlmarkt, at which Marienplatz was full of wooden stalls offering food, drink and lots of homemade items.

Whether and if so in what form and to what extent the Christmas market and “Hüttenzauber” will sweeten the pre-Christmas season in Weilheim this year is written in the stars, according to Stefan Frenzl from the “Office for Location Promotion, Culture and Tourism”.

"I can't comment on that today."

The planning was ongoing and there was a lively exchange with the district office as the responsible authority, but because the infection rate was constantly changing, it could not be said what could be achieved in December and January.

However, it is rather unlikely that it will run like it did in previous years: "The full form will probably not be available for event formats," says Frenzl.

According to Frenzl, the city of Weilheim, its event office and the location promotion office would like the “Hüttenzauber” in Schmiedstraße and the Christmas market on Marienplatz to be held at least in a slimmed-down form.

“There is a desire to let something take place for the citizens and for the business people, but that cannot happen at any price,” says Frenzl.

With all the longing to return to normality, as it existed before Corona, with many celebrations in the city center and numerous larger and smaller events in the city and its venues, the security of the Weilheimer should not be jeopardized.

The corona rules would have to be adhered to.

In any case, in the next few months there will probably be a constant balancing act between the desire to celebrate parties and hold events and keep the risk of infection low: "We don't want to expose people to any danger - and still allow something," says Frenzl.

The chances for the “hut magic” with the huts run by restaurateurs are better than those for the Christmas market and the “club hut” in Schmiedstrasse: “It's easier with the professional operators, they do it all year round,” says Frenzl.

It is more difficult to develop a concept for the “club hut” and the Christmas market that is Corona-compliant, because there are no gastronomy professionals at work there.

Unfortunately, nothing can be said about the possibilities in December at the moment, because the planning is always dependent on the number of corona infections.

Frenzl is aware that this uncertainty is a problem, especially in the clubs and institutions for which the “club hut” and the Christmas market were important sources of income, because the preparations would have to start there.

But that can't be changed at the moment, says Frenzl.

The city is in constant exchange with the district office for the planning.

“We are currently busy finding out whether there can be at least something small, or whether it won't work at all this year,” says Frenzl.

At least at the Apostle Church community in Weilheim, preparations are already underway for participation in the Christmas market and in the “Vereinshütte”, where “Church Music” and the “Creative Circle” sell self-made, made and knitted items every year, as Pastor Sabine Nagel says: “The The creative circle is already meeting, and church music is also in the starting blocks. ”Even if the full Advent program may not be possible,“ we all hope that something can happen, ”says the pastor from Weilheim.
