Before the start of the new school year, there was still a lot of tinkering in the St. Johann elementary school.

Under the direction of the municipal building management, six additional classrooms were equipped with acoustic ceilings, absorber panels and new LED lighting during the holidays.

In addition, the school building has been converted to a chip-controlled locking system.

Peißenberg - the community had already had four classrooms acoustically renovated little by little in the years before.

Now the decision was made to upgrade six rooms in one go in terms of noise insulation technology.

For the schoolchildren and the teachers, the 72,000 euro measure should result in a better learning and teaching environment.

"St.

Johann “is a profile school for inclusion.

That demands certain standards: “We have children who have special needs due to previous illnesses.

We try to meet them, ”Rector Matthias Igerl refers to, among other things, students with hearing impairments or poor concentration.

The noise atmosphere in the retrofitted rooms is "a world of difference": "Before that there was a madness hall in there," says Igerl.

In terms of "occupational safety", the noise pollution has also assumed alarming proportions for the teachers.

Ten of the 14 classrooms in St. Johann have now been acoustically renovated.

“We can get by with that now,” Igerl states.

The renovation, in which the building yard and the caretaker were also heavily involved, was subsidized by the state with around 40,000 euros.

Other projects are already on the list: St. Johann primary school is to receive a fiber optic connection and a new computer room.

The individual classrooms are already equipped with an internet connection, video projector and document cameras: "We are already very far with digitization," emphasizes Igerl.

Accordingly, homeschooling “worked great” during the corona lockdown.

"Virtual classrooms" have been programmed by a specialist company from Augsburg.

Igerl is relieved, however, that the new school year starts with regular school operations, at least for the time being: "I am glad that things are running normally again."
