US President Donald Trump last night (Monday) congratulated King Salman of Saudi Arabia on the opening of the skies for flights between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, following an agreement to normalize relations between the two countries.
The White House statement said that in a phone call the two had, Trump urged King Salman to talk to other Gulf states in an attempt to resolve the Palestinian issue.
The president and Salman also discussed ways to improve security and regional prosperity, the statement said.
Earlier tonight, Saudi state news agencies reported that Salman told Trump that the kingdom was interested in finding a fair and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue, which he said was at the starting point of the Arab peace plan.

Despite the move, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said the opening of airspace to flights did not indicate a change in the kingdom's determined stance on the Palestinian issue.
Now, the King of Saudi Arabia has reiterated the kingdom's support for finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the Arab peace plan.
Riyadh's 2002 peace initiative includes the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states in exchange for a withdrawal to the 67 borders, as part of an agreement with the Palestinian Authority.
