US President Donald Trump is ready to use money from his private fortune in the campaign for his re-election on November 3rd.

"If I have to, I'll do it," said Trump on Tuesday in response to a question from journalists.

Trump added, "Whatever it takes, we have to win."

"This is the most important election in the history of our country," he said before leaving for performances in the states of Florida and North Carolina.

Since the beginning of 2019, Trump's campaign for re-election in 2020 has already cost around $ 800 million (€ 678 million) - more than twice as much as that of his Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Despite the high spending, Biden is consistently ahead in the polls.

The New York Times reported lavish spending by Brad Parscale, Trump's former campaign manager.

Under his direction alone, eleven million dollars are said to have been spent on two commercials that were shown during the Super Bowl.

Trump's new campaign manager Bill Stepien, on the other hand, has made cost cutting a priority.

Trump told the short message service Twitter that any financial hardship was the fault of the media, as he was forced to "spend money to counteract fake news."

The "Forbes" magazine, meanwhile, reports that Trump has clearly crashed on the list of the richest people in the world.

His company had to make significant cuts during the corona pandemic.

In particular, his office buildings, hotels and holiday resorts suffered from the measures taken to contain the corona virus.

According to Forbes, the US president has fallen from 275th to 352th of the richest people in the world.

His fortune has shrunk from an estimated $ 3.1 billion to $ 2.5 billion.
