Rochester City Police Chief in New York, L 'Ron Singletry announced his resignation last night (Tuesday) following the release of documents documenting the violent arrest and death of Daniel Prud, a black man who suffered a psychotic attack and died at the hospital last March.

In addition, seven other officials announced the end of their tenure.

At a press conference, the commander said the decision was made following "politicization and actions of an incorrect nature" after the case in which Parod was found dead under police responsibility.

"As an honest man, I will not sit idly by while outside bodies try to destroy my name," Singletry said, summing up 20 years in the police force.

"The decisions I made after I became aware of the incident were not based on facts and do not represent what I believe in."

Mayor Lovely Warren, a black woman herself, said at a recent City Council meeting that she had never asked Singletari to end his job even though new information about the previously unknown incident had been revealed in recent days, which she did not elaborate on.

Since the man's family released the footage from the body camera of one of the police officers present at his arrest, protests have begun in the city following the gruesome photos, but there have been no exceptions compared to demonstrations taking place across the country since George Floyd's killing in May.

On the other hand the publicity raised many questions about possible coverage of the incident by the local authorities.

Seven police officers involved in the arrest were suspended from duty last week.

At the same time after the autopsy of the man's body, the Institute of Forensic Medicine in the city announced that Parod's death was caused by suffocation but the combination of the drug PCP he took is another factor.

At the same time it was confirmed that the victim experienced a psychotic attack during his arrest.
