A 22-year-old detainee committed suicide by hanging Wednesday afternoon at the Lyon-Corbas remand center, we learned from the firefighters, confirming information from the daily Le Progrès.

Alerted around 5.30 p.m., the firefighters and the Samu tried to resuscitate the young man, without success, said the same source.
The Lyon-Corbas remand center, planned to accommodate 690 places, including 60 for women, was put into service in 2009.
In 2019, 128 prisoners committed suicide, three fewer than in 2018, according to the management of the prison administration (DAP).
Between January 1 and August 17, 82 suicides had already been recorded, against 72 over the same period last year.
